Riding the rim to save America's wetlands

  About Terry

Why ride 12,000 plus miles on a motorcycle? Like the saying goes "If you gotta ask you just wouldn't understand." I am a long distance rider and have been since my early days back in my home state of Wisconsin. Whether it is riding the back roads to to see the world's "biggest ball of tinfoil" or hitting the super slab to Terry with his 2005 Harley Davidson Road Glideget from point A to B, motorcycle touring has always been my passion.

A little background information about me. Born in 1951, I spent the first 24 years of my life as a resident of Madison, Wisconsin. After college, I moved to New Orleans, LA in 1975 and quickly became enchanted with not only the city but the entire region. Yes, the weather gets hot, the roaches are the size of small cats, and the local politics are at times less than honorable. But with all that said there is a charm about the South, and especially New Orleans, that you can't describe with words; you have to experience it. Now after having raised my family here for the last 30 years this is my home.

I started riding motorcycles before I had my automobile license. My first long trips took me into Canada and throughout the Midwest. Although I gave up riding for almost 20 years, while I raised my children, the passion for motorcycle riding never left me.  I ride a 2005 Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycle and I am an active member in the Slidell, LA Northshore H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group). As a member of H.O.G. and American Motorcycle Association (AMA) I participate in many motorcycling events including cross country tours like my 3,900 mile trip in the summer of 2005.

Now why am I asking for your support? Well my area, like many coastal regions, is quickly disappearing (click here to learn more) . This is not a problem that occurred overnight, it has been going on for years, decades and even longer. I heard the doomsday predications but like so many others in Louisiana, and the rest of the country, it just didn't seem like that big of a deal. Well it is a big deal! Hurricane Katrina made us all aware of that. I am determined to become part of the solution, to become engaged and not just enraged about the destruction of our wetlands and coastline.

This trip, Riding the Rim, is my way to combine my passion for motorcycle touring with a venue that I believe can make a difference for this great region - We Can Save America's WETLAND!  Come join me in this journey!
